Sera-Mag® Magnetic Particles
Sera-Mag magnetic particles are based on patent (5,648,124), using 1µM magnetic carboxylate-modified base particles made by a core-shell process. The surface has a unique cauliflower-like structure with a high carboxylic acid content. They combine a fast magnetic response time with a large surface area and fast reaction kinetics. Sera-Mag are used in a wide variety of molecular biology, nucleic acid isolation, research protocols and clinical immunoassay reagent applications.

SpeedBeads™ Magnetic Particles [ Download PDF (279k) ]
The SpeedBeads are the newest entry in Seradyn’s Sera-Mag line of magnetic beads. The SpeedBeads respond twice as fast to a magnetic field as our original Sera-Mag particles, and are available in carboxylate-modified and streptavidin coated versions.

The entire line of Sera-Mag encapsulated magnetic particles exhibit high binding capacity, excellent stability, low nonspecific binding, exquisite sensitivity and very slow settling rates.

The new SpeedBeads will create improved immunoassay and molecular biology sample prep reagents. The increased speed of response to a magnetic field will allow shorter assay time in clinical diagnostic tests and faster particle movement through viscous solutions for molecular biology applications. They are especially useful in molecular biology sample preparation applications.

Magnetic Carboxylate-Modified (MG-CM) [ Download PDF (250k) ]
These microparticles are colloidally stable in the absence of a magnetic field. When a magnetic force is applied, the particles are separated rapidly and completely from suspensions. Covalent coupling (of proteins, nucleic acids, etc.) to carboxyl groups on the surface is easily accomplished using our standard coupling technology. Magnetic Streptavidin (MG-SA) [ Download PDF (255k) ]
Containing covalently bound streptavidin, these particles come in four levels of biotin binding capacity ranging from 2000-4500 pmol/mg. Testing of these particles shows excellent shelf-life up to 5 years.

Magnetic Oligo(dT) Particles (MG-OL) [ Download PDF (209k) ]
These particles contain covalently bound oligo(dT) which are colloidally stable in the absence of a magnetic field. Binding capacity is measured by binding of (dA)30 and is expressed as pmol of (dA)30 bound per mg of beads.

MG-OL particles are mainly used for mRNA isolation. MG-OL particles can also be used as a universal base particle for coupling unique oligo sequences. Simply synthesize your oligo with a poly-A tail for easy attachment to the oligo(dT) particles.

Solid Phase Reversible Isolation (SPRI®)
Solid Phase Reversible Immobilization is a patented, high performance nucleic acid purification technology developed at MIT’s Whitehead Institute (Hawkins, et. Al., Nucleic Acids Res. 1995; 23:22). SPRI is based on the selective immobilization of nucleic acids onto Sera-Mag magnetic particles. SPRI helped scientists to process the enormous number of purifications required for the Human Genome Project. It has been adopted by several of the largest genome research facilities, resulting in more base pairs contributed to GenBank® than any other nucleic acid purification technology.

Standard Packaging
Most microparticle products are sold in 15 mL, 100 mL and 1000 mL packages at 10% solids. Dyed, fluorescent, magnetic and other specialty particles are available in different concentrations and package sizes. The particles are routinely supplied with 0.05% sodium azide.

    Some of our magnetic particle products are sold in economical sample evaluation pack form. These evaluation packs allow you to buy small samples from among our inventory of different binding capacities, surface blocked, or magnetic response times at greatly reduced prices.

    Sera-Mag® Magnetic Streptavidin (MG-SA) biotin binding capacity evaluation pack
    Packaged in 1 mL bottles at 1% solids (10 mg/mL). These are available in four different biotin binding capacities (and 1 additional surface blocked high biotin binding version). Your evaluation pack options are 3 to 5 samples of low to high biotin-binding capacity particles and the surface blocked version.

    SpeedBead™ Magnetic Streptavidin high biotin binding (and surface blocked) evaluation pack
    Packaged in 1 mL bottles at 1% solids (10 mg/mL). The 2 sample evaluation pack contains 1 mL each of:
